Judo Fundamentals Session

This session is focused on mastering fundamental Judo techniques, emphasizing balance, grip, and proper throwing mechanics. Participants will learn how to effectively bring the opponent down while maintaining control and safety. The session includes live practice, drills, and partner work to build confidence and refine technique. Suitable for beginners and advanced students alike, the seminar ensures that everyone gains practical and applicable Judo skills.

The main focus of this session is on mastering O Goshi (Major Hip Throw) and Seoi Nage (Shoulder Throw), emphasizing correct balance breaking, precise entry, and controlled execution of both fundamental techniques.

O Goshi (Major Hip Throw)

O Goshi is one of the most fundamental hip throws in Judo. The attacker breaks the opponent’s balance forward, turns in closely, and uses the hip as a fulcrum to lift and throw the opponent cleanly onto the mat.

Seoi Nage (Shoulder Throw)

Seoi Nage is a powerful shoulder throw used to redirect the opponent’s momentum. By turning under the opponent’s arm, you load them onto your back and project them forward.

If time allows, the session will also cover additional fundamental throwing techniques such as Uchi Mata, Harai Goshi, and O Soto Gari, which further expand the students’ understanding of timing, balance, and directional control in Judo. Uchi Mata focuses on breaking the opponent’s posture and using an inner thigh sweep to create a powerful forward rotation, while Harai Goshi combines hip rotation with a sweeping leg action to generate fluid and dynamic throwing mechanics against upright resistance. O Soto Gari, one of the most classical and effective Judo throws, emphasizes controlling the upper body while reaping the opponent’s leg backward to force a decisive and clean takedown. These techniques will be introduced as supplementary material to reinforce core principles and give participants a broader technical foundation, depending on the pace and progress of the group.

Uchi Mata (Inner Thigh Throw)

Uchi Mata is a powerful inner-thigh technique that uses sweeping leg motion and upper body control to destabilize and throw the opponent forward or onto their back.

Harai Goshi (Sweeping Hip Throw)

Harai Goshi combines hip rotation with a sweeping leg action, creating a dynamic and fluid throw that works especially well against upright opponents.

O Soto Gari (Major Outer Reap)

O Soto Gari is a classic sacrifice-style throw where you reap the opponent’s leg backward while controlling their upper body to drive them to the mat.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions, receive personalized guidance, and improve their overall grappling ability.
